With the best heat treat possible , all knives go through my abuse test before putting on a handle , which means baton through dead dry walnut , then baton on 3mm thick brass plate and then baton on soft steel, if it passes the shaving test after all of this , then I do the brass rod test and only after that I put on the handle.
